Sin, Guilt, and depression

Guilt is a destroyer of happiness, productivity, and the soul, guilt imagined and real, pulls us down and will destroy relationships in life and your spirituality. Too often a person with a guilty conscience may lash out in bitterness toward others.

Sin is the root of the problem because sin leads to guilt and depression which further complicates matters and leads the person into a greater sense of guilt and a heavier burden of depression.

Kind Solomon described this progression of sin and guilt this way: "His own iniquities entrap the wicked man, and he is caught in the cords of his own sin" Proverbs 5:22

I hear people say, "we live in a sick society." That is a misnomer by sighting wickedness (sin) as sickness. If a well-known person is murdered, people say "We live in a sick society."

If teenagers murder a classmate, we hear "Our society is to blame."  It is this attitude that says that people are not responsible for their own deeds. When we call sin a sickness, it removes any notion of personal responsibility. This is the center of the problem! People are being led to believe that they are not responsible for their actions. Too many people simply do not consider themselves responsible for what they do wrong.

Not once does God ever refer to problems of the world as a "sickness", but shows any person's transgression of God's devine law (a sin) According to what God has revealed to us in His Word each person is responsible and accountable for his or her own actions.
